What should I be looking for in a Content Management System (CMS)?

A good content management system should be easy to use, flexible and compatible. The main idea about content management is that you should not need to learn a great deal about web design to be able to make simple changes to your web site. On the other hand, you also want to be able to make more advanced changes to your site if you want to so your content management systems needs to be customisable and scalable. You should also be able to adapt your current website easily to the content management system - it should not need to be extensively redesigned or revamped. Our CMS can be used easily on most text based websites, it works almost in the same way as a typical Word Processor and it can allow for direct HTML editing if you are an advanced user. It can also be used in conjunction with FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

What can I do with the Content Management System (CMS)?

A good CMS will enable you to create new pages based on the style of your pages, upload images or files, create hyperlinks to other pages or images, make changes to fonts and styles and also allow you to use bullet points, number lists and conduct cut and paste activities from your other applications. If you have very specific content management requests then a good CMS system will only allow changes to certain areas of pages, or it will only allow certain editing functions to take place. Our CMS systems provide all of these features.

What can't I do with the Content Management System (CMS)?

You cannot make direct changes to images - though you can cut and replace any image, upload images and select new ones to insert into pages. For this reason graphically intensive sites do not perform well with the CMS. Animations, JAVA, JAVASCRIPT and CSS styles are harder to change with the standard system, For these sites we have developed custom systems which can make changes to items like this.

Do I need any special software?

Our only requirement is that you have either Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, which is available free of charge from Microsoft, or Firefox.
